The Story Behind the Lens
This photograph was made while travelling through Banff National Park on our way to British Columbia during the spring of 2009. As winter slowly gave way to spring, snow still blanketed the mountain peaks while the rivers had begun their annual transformation, carrying fresh meltwater through the valleys below.
Black and white landscape photographs can have a special impact - shifting the focus away from colour and toward form, contrast, and texture. The flowing river, rugged mountain faces, and expansive sky become timeless elements, capturing both the power and serenity of the Canadian Rockies.
